WEST NILE YOUTH SUPPORT THE RESTORATION OF PRESIDENTIAL TERM LIMITS
3rd May 2012
NEBBI
While launching the Center for Costitutional Governance (CCG) youth programme - The Hope Initiative for West Nile, the discussion on term limits came up and the youth over whelmingly decided to support the campaign.
The Youth recalled that Uganda has never witnessed peaceful hand over of power since Independence. That Uganda has always changed leaders through violence as the means. This cycle of violence has continously gone on and some elements of this very cycle are beggining to manifest themselves in the way government treats the opposition politicians. Key amongst these examples of violence is the police mishandling of the political and civil rights activists.
The youth resolved that its their generational duty to re - direct the course of events in this country. With their resolve of love for Uganda as enshrined in their own GARUGA DECLARATION- A young peoples' Declaration on their role in the socio-economic transformation of this country, they decided to futher popularise the campaign in every corner of this country.
The young leaders denounced the abuse of human rights by the Uganda Police Force and called upon Parliament to implement the recent report by the Uganda Human Rights Commission on this matter.
They also called for a national dialogue instead of the selected conferences that the President highlighted on Labour day in search for answers to the challenges Uganda faces today, including, but not limited to the governance challenges, corruption, unemployment and the rising cost of living.
The youth endorsed the President's demand that this year's budget should include the students loan scheme without fail.
The meeting was concluded with the full endorsement of the Citizens Action for the Restoration of Term Limits Campaign.
